The quickest way to compare domain prices
Domain retailers don’t all offer the same pricing. There’s an easy way to figure out who offers the cheapest ongoing annual price.
It’s worth checking
Buying a domain for your new website can be overwhelming. When presented with all the price options it’s not always clear who’s offering the best deal. A simple Google search will bombard you with dozens of options, making it difficult to find the cheapest domains.
And believe us - not everyone sells domains at the same price.
The wholesale cost for .au domains (to domain registrars like us) is $9.30 +GST per year. Despite that, you’ll find some registrars charging up to $88 per year. We think that’s unreasonable.
But even if you took the time to tabulate pricing from every retailer, you’d still have to try and figure out which prices are skewed with introductory pricing or short-term discounts. The maths can quickly get very messy.
Discounts, bargains, short-term offers
Comparing domain providers isn’t as simple as just comparing pricing. Some retailers are better for managing hundreds of domains with loads of fancy tools, some use aggressive sign-up discounting to get you in the door, whereas others - like Chirpy - do everything they can to give you the cheapest domain price possible at all times.
It’s important to look beyond the sticker (or promotional price). An extremely cheap first year price doesn’t mean the following years will be offered at the same discounted rate. Often companies will hike up the renewal price, and customers who joined with a ”generous” first-year discount will be left paying unexpectedly high prices when their annual renewal comes around.
Of course, domain prices aren't the entire picture - but pricing will always matter, and always be directly comparable.
How to compare domain prices
It turns out there’s a tool for exactly that. Domain Compare is a website that strips domain retailers down to their most essential metrics - pricing, review scores, and hosting options. Nothing else, no other fluff.
The chart on the Domain Compare homepage lets you filter by cheapest price or highest reviews so you can quickly contrast your options. A quick look at that chart shows you exactly what we’re offering - really cheap domain fees, no hidden costs, no extra fuss.
What we like about Domain Compare is that it shows the full Australian dollar renewal price each retailer charges for one domain per year. All the discounts, and introductory offers we mentioned earlier are stripped out. This way you just see the real price you will be paying every year.
Remember to do your own research to see who offers the cheapest domains, and when you’re ready you can get started by searching for your new .au domain.
