FAQ

Yes, we are an authorised registrar.
Let's face it, dot-coms are a pain to administer, and we simply can't compete on price the way some larger registrars do. We’re here to do one thing incredibly well, which means keeping things simple and offering the best-value .au Domains in the market.
Currently you can register all types of .au Domains, so long as you meet the conditions set out by the Australian Domains Administration (auDA)
1. Visit our [home page](/).
2. Search for the domain you want and choose your .au suffix.
3. Click through to enter your contact and payment details.
4. Your Domain will be registered immediately.
We have a [step-by step guide](/domains/register/) to help you register.
We accept all major credit cards. We do not accept cash, cheque or direct credit.
Yes, you can click the '+ Add' button each time you search for a Domain so you can register them all in one transaction.
Yes, you can register for 1, 2, 3, 5 or 10 years. There is no discount for multiple years.
As soon as your payment is processed, your Domain will be available to you.
First, get your Domain password (aka auth code) from your current registrar. Then go to our transfer page, enter your Domain and its password (not your Chirpy password), and the Domain will transfer immediately. We have a step-by-step guide to help you transfer.
Yes, and we’ll do it without charging you. You can either send us a list of Domains and Domain passwords and we'll bulk-transfer them, or send your registrar login details and we'll handle the transfers for you. Contact us.
No, domain transfers (including bulk transfers) are free with Chirpy Domains. The remaining registration period on your Domain carries over between registrars.
Domain transfers are processed immediately. There is no delay.
Domain passwords are not the password you use to log into Chirpy Domains. Also known as an authorisation code or auth code, your Domain password is required to “unlock” access to your Domain for some actions - most importantly, when transferring between providers. There is a Domain Password recovery tool operated by auDA.
From Chirpy Domains: Login to your account. Next to your Domain name, you'll see the option to request your Domain password, which we'll email to the domain owner's address.
From other registrars: If you request a Domain password from any other registrar, they must issue it to you immediately, without question. Simply contact your registrar and ask.
On our renewal page. You’ll need your Domain, the period you want to renew it for, and your credit card. We’ll renew your Domain straight away.
Yes, you can renew for 1, 2, 3, 5 or 10 years. There is no discount for multiple years.
Yes, we will email you as early as two months prior to your renewal date, and will then send regular notices of the pending renewal. The email will be sent to the billing contact email.
You still have time to renew it before anyone else can take it over. Your Domain’s status will change from “Registered” to “Expired Hold” for 30 days. While it is in that state you can still renew or transfer it. After those 30 days, un-renewed Domains go through “Expired Pending Delete” and “Expired Pending Purge” statuses for around a day each. After that, they are “purged” back into the public pool and made available for anyone to register as usual.
Provided the Domain is still in the 'Expired Hold' state, you can renew it as usual.
Yes, you can set your own nameservers, or you can use ours by default.
Yes, you can set DNS records inside the management console (currently A, AAAA, MX, and CNAME.)
At this time we do not provide either of these services.
We don’t provide hosting or email services (because we are all about just doing one thing well). But our sister company, MyHost, does. They have servers in Sydney, sharp prices, and a great team. Even better, Chirpy customers can get six months’ free hosting with the checkout code CHIRPYWELCOME. Visit MyHost now. (Offer valid for new MyHost customers only, and excludes sites already hosted with SiteHost - our other sister company).
Depending on the TLD you choose (e.g. `.id.au` or `.com.au`), different conditions from auDA can apply. In all cases you need to prove a connection to Australia and in some you also need to show that you’ll use the Domain for a commercial purpose. For both of these cases, an Australian Business Number or ABN will suffice.
