Why you should renew your domain early

If you know you want to keep your domain beyond its current expiry, there's no reason not to lock in more years today.
Every domain has an expiry date. Domain renewal extends your ownership period by pushing the expiry date further into the future. You can renew your domain at any time, even if it's months or years away from expiring. The renewal period will take effect after the current expiry date.
Four reasons to be proactive
Don't wait for those reminder emails to start rolling in! There are numerous reasons to renew your domains early. Here are a few of our favourites.
Lock in today's prices
Domain prices tend to increase over time. To ensure your domain remains active for years to come, consider pre-paying for additional time now. You'll be ahead of the curve when the inevitable price increase occurs.
Have extra certainty
While we send email reminders and you can set domains to auto-renew, these methods are not always reliable. For example, reminders can be missed due to email address changes and auto-renewals can fail due to outdated credit card information. However, these are just some of the potential issues that could arise. The only way to be absolutely sure that your domain remains yours is to renew it, even if it's not due to expire for a long time. Any additional years you add to the renewal will take effect after the current expiry date.
Manage your cashflow
The renewal schedule for your domain portfolio can be adjusted to positively impact your cash flow, especially if you have a large number of domains. Regardless of their expiration dates, domains can be renewed at any time during the year.
This flexibility allows you to spread out renewal costs throughout the year, for example, by renewing one-quarter of your domains in February, May, August, and November. Alternatively, you may choose to manage all renewals at a specific time of year that aligns with your financial preferences.
Don't rely on a complex system working perfectly at the last minute
The technical infrastructure that supports domains is incredibly reliable, but not flawless. To put it simply, a lot of different systems from different organisations need to communicate for a domain to renew successfully. While outages are unlikely, they are possible, and you should allow yourself enough time to try again before the expiry date.
